Overview of the Engineering Systems

The following is an overview of the engineering shared file system
areas:
neptune:/usr/local - Storage for widely shared and locally developed
			 applications
    neptune:/ccofc - Configuration Management databases
neptune:/tools - Embedded cross compilers, only used for staging
new compilers and their licensing applications.
neptune:/more2vws - CM view private storage.
starfish:/morevws - CM view private storage.
starfish:/pkg - Frame and free software, like GNU, applications.
GNU applications get installed in /usr/local,
but archive files are stored here.
nautilus:/ctuboot - CTU NFS boot area and release build storage.
moby:/documents - Documentation storage, not shared to keep users
from running Frame on all of the systems.
moby:/Voice - Language Block storage, owned by Kim Barney,
                         not shared.

Primary function of each Sun system:
torpedo - Primary DNS server and NIS master, database locations are
	       /etc/named and /etc/NISmaster.
starfish - Secondary DNS server, NIS server, CM view storage server.
neptune - Configuration Management and embedded tool application
               server.
moby - Primary user home directory server and documentation
               storage.
nimo - Outside DNS server, NIS server and E-mail system.
               Currently running SunOs.
seahorse - Build engine, jumpstart server and OS patch server.
    orca - Build engine
barnacle - Tadpole laptop used for field integration and testing.
nautilus - CTU NFS boot server running SunOs. Dependant on nimo for
	       "/usr/local" file system.
others - Are basically used as X terminals, with the users e-mail
               storage.

Application maintenance is done for Rational's ClearCase configuration
management, Microtech's cross compilers, Vital's Crisp editor, and
Adobe's Framemaker. Hardware and software maintenance has been
purchased for the Sun computer systems.

The ClearCase license is located on neptune at:
    /var/adm/atria/license.db
This is an expiring license currently scheduled to expire on 6/25/1998.

The Flexlm license file is stored on neptune at:
    /tools/lm/license.dat
The Microtech Spectra tools require a link to the Flexlm file at:
    /tools/mri/license/license.rdy.

The new Wind River tools have a license located on neptune at:
    /tools/wind/.wind/license

Frames license file is located on starfish at:
    /pkg/frame5/fminit/licenses

The Crisp editor has a license file at:
    /tools/crisp_5.1.2c/bin.sol2-sparc/license.dat
The license file is changed every time the editor is upgraded. Vital
distributes updates over the network. To update the editor you ftp
download the new version, then send the current license to
support@vital.com requesting an upgrade for the new version.

DDTS has the Gestapo license manager, location of the license is
unknown and if you restore the directory tree you still must manually
re-enter the license information. I believe it saves the inode number
internally. To re-install the license information:
    Login: ddts
    run: adminbug
	>alic
	    Company Name: Highley Recommended
	    Quantity: 50
	    License Serial No.: 9999999
	    Expiration Date: NEVER
	    Password: 999-00-9999
	>quit
The license information is case sensitive and must be entered as above.

Free ware is periodically updated by retrieving a new version from the
internet, build and install in /usr/local file structure. On an as
needed basis we add our locally developed utilities to /usr/local/bin.
We store the compressed archive files for the freeware on starfish at
/pkg.
